XXXIII

Olympiade

2024

Welcome visitors to traveling with GI Joe and his friends. Perhaps, this has little to do with history.

But, let us have some fun

Eiffel Tower blu skies.jpg

We see a scene that has American GIs in good hands in a French town.  Americans responded in an unforgetting moment 8 decades ago when for different reasons travelled to France, Europe, to rid the world of tyrants. Historically, France and the United States have always been in good relations with each other, and the bond of friendship exists to this day.   On August 25, 2024, the capital Paris will celebrate it's 80th year of liberation.  The Official Paris music, composed by Victor Le Manse

Traveling during the Second World War was fraught with danger.  In a world of insecurity and danger 8 decades ago, countless brave people strove to rid the world of the hatreds of Fascism, principally led by Adolf Hitler.  His wave of armies wanted to conquer the world.   (All pictures here are 1 /6 scale.)  We will add a history of GI Joe in the near future.

The Summer Olympics has returned to the traditional 4-year Olympic cycle.  This little webpage has been updated and is down to earth. Cool video best of Team USA at the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony.

Traveling was still in the dumps in the last Olympics for all nations, and traveling overseas mirrored it.  Four years ago, there was no Olympics—thanks to COVID.   There were no people in the stadiums and venues, it was weird when the Tokyo Olympics was held three years ago.   Many places in the West today, on a different note, cannot escape smoke due to fires, others like in Texas or the East lack air conditioners to fight the heat for lack of electricity caused by tenaciously fierce winds that pummeled power lines. Life goes on despite summer temperatures that can go beyond the stage of being annoying.  I do not consider the term global warming as important as other factors, folks can argue about that, and who is right on that issue, til doomsday.  I try to provide you the facts. After years of preparations, thanks to the best athletes in the world who flew to Paris to compete, they became like a breath of fresh air that this world needed.

The city of Paris was the main host city.  Here is a brief introduction (10 mins) to the host city Paris and also the next host, Los Angeles, courtesy of Culture & Travel around the world.  Something weird and strange has just surfaced, only after the Paris Olympics ended.  This was the Olympics with big talk about inclusion.  Since 2002, Father Edward Plen of Poland was allowed to offer Mass to Olympians in the villages, if some Olympians wanted, no big deal. All in the background, summer or winter, this Chaplain was allowed.  Then the news has been leaked certain Olympic atheists in 2024 decided Catholicism, even though half naked artists and transsexuals were not offensive, was offensive, and put a stop to humble Fr Plen.  He has attended 11 past Summer and Winter Olympics.  Let us see if inclusion in the forthcoming host city 2028 will be real or a bunch of baloney. The city of Paris had 32 sports, however, not all were in Paris, because some athletes travelled to 16 other French cities, plus, one event way to the other side of the world, 9,765 miles away (15,715.37 km) to Tahiti, French Polynesia—2,376 nautical miles south of Hawaii and 3,078 nmi from Australia.  Ua Tika Te Hana.

Tahiti is roughly two round portions of land that center on volcanic mountains.   Colorful Tahitian dancers. "Paradisia" Fenua, remix by Tommy Driker Feat Mesik 2023, Les Ambassadeurs de l'Environnement.  In 1900, Paris catered the Olympics, with a second return in 1924, when it drew 3,089 athletes and 17 sports, down from 19 in 1900.  But, in 2024 there were over 200 countries, over 14,000 Olympic participants and three hundred and ninety Olympic delegations from all over to see that 32 different sports would be showcased just right.

A few days before the Olympics, the old high jump record of 10 ft 4 inches was broken by Yaroslava Mahuchikh.  And. guess what?  She is from war-torn Ukraine and got a gold medal in the Olympics.

Records were broken.  And one of the best news is that people were again in the stands and venues —10 million tickets is the projected sales of tickets.   Some of our Olympic athletes are Katie Ledecky, tall 6 foot swimmer, from Washington DC (age 27); Simone Biles, also 27, from Ohio; LeBron James, basketball from Ohio (age 39); Sunny Choi, breaking, grew up in Louisville but hometown now Queens, NY, age 35; Lee Kiefer, age 30, made history in fencing in Tokyo as she was the first to get gold in fencing; volleyball player Justine Wong-Orantes, age 28, from Cypress, California.  This is only a tiny sample-- check here.  14,500+ athletes and Olympic officials are part of  both the Olympics and the Paralympic Games that follows.  Some of the most exciting moments can come in foot races, as is seen with some of the most shocking comebacks in history, courtesy of MisterFilOfficial (about 4 mins.)  Heck, 32 sports is a lot, however, this 8 min video gave you a rundown on the actual venues in Paris, courtesy of SportsRender.

I'm ready to take on the world.  And, dream of a gold medal. Summer Games kicked off in Paris, rain or no rain, it was spectacular.  Alegre de su canto, is a phrase in Spanish, from a French song Dominic  (Dominique in French), a #1 in the top 100 of America.  So, with an international ambience, click on the song, begins in Japanese.  This was no dorky song, for it has a pretty catchy tune, and when it rose to a stature some 60 years ago as #1, it was extremely, internationally popular.  It was translated into numerous languages.  Ask someone who lived during the 1960s if they remembered this song.

Many Olympians began to arrive around July 18 when the Olympic Village officially opened.  Yet, the village had no A/C.  But, for the U.S. contingent, someone used their noodles, and ordered portables for the Americans.  Seems les Americans were not the only ones different. It hit a high of 70˚F July 26, but July 30: 92˚F.  Rest of the time, from mid 70s to low 80s.  Soccer games started around 3pm. Track like 7.  She mentioned 2,400 meters, that is an altitude like 1.4919 mile high or about 7,877 feet high.

Breakdancing made its first appearance as an event, as surfing, and I’ve seen these youngsters do their thing.  The skills they perform is short of amazing, and as a sport is called breaking.   It can and will be very hot.   How hot will it be in summertime Paris is a good question, but the Paris Olympic officials moved hours of athlete outdoor events to be more accommodating to the individuals, who gave it their best.   You never knew who you could meet.

Many participants are too young to know this BUT, many French people died because of a horrific summer heat, in 2003.  They even had portable morgues to handle the volume of people (pic in blue) who were dying left and right.   Life goes on despite summer temperatures that can go beyond the stage of being annoying.  I do not consider the term global warming as important as other factors, folks can argue about that, and who is right on that issue, til doomsday.  I give you the facts, with no lace attached.

With Le Bron in Paris.png

Beaming toward Paris  "Im ready, are you?" exclaims LeBron James.

But, to get to Paris, they had to board their jets.   Airlines from every part of the globe had attendants of every description you can think of see that a passenger’s journey would be a happy experience, and for some like the pole vaulters, javelin, discus, and surfers with their special equipment, their special equipment is very important but . . . all the care in the world, will be meaningless, if the equipment did not arrive safely.   Many Olympians by the way were transported on a special A350 jet that carried over 300, under Delta Airlines flight crews, the official airline of Team USA.  For your leisure, the two musicals can be played as background music, if you like.   Click the triangle.

The participants boarded airline jets and headed for Paris (or Tahiti) to attend and participate.  A despicable computer glitch made worldwide news, however, when it hit numerous computer systems, that affected some banks and media companies.  And, it hit international travelers a few days before the start of the Olympics, disrupting every major airport from London and Rome, Sydney, Paris and N.Y.   Unfortunately for Delta, they were one of the last ones to fix the problems, but they made amends including to reimburse many travelers (issuing 10,000 sky miles); on July 24, Delta issued an apology saying that they would be able to return to full operations, July 25, a day before the opening of the Olympics.

Asking a flight attendant directions.  Life goes on despite summer temperatures that can go beyond the stage of being annoying.  Destination for most athletes?  Under the Eiffel Tower.  Gay Paree.  Thank God, the hottest days during the Olympics never reached the highest recorded temp in Paris, which was not too long ago, on July 25, 2019 it hit 108.7˚F.  (42.62˚C.)

From around the world, they flew. Athletes competed and were housed, trained, slept and enjoyed the city of beauty, culture, lights and ambience; each serious in his/her event.  There were 329 events, according to the ministry of French Olympics.  There were 14,500 athletes and Olympic officials.  Of the 10,500 athletes, 592 were American athletes (314 women and 278 men)—and they had their Olympic ambassador, with the coolest name you ever heard, Rocky Harris.  His official title is chef de mission (COM) or head of mission, in short for “chef de mission diplomatique.”   This will be the final Games held during the IOC presidency of Thomas Bach. Some Olympic suits are very stylish. I’ve seen some fashionable Olympic outfits in my day, but many of these take the cake.

To make this website not a plain scripted source, I utilized the services of Envato Picture Agency,  to serve both as a source of information and as a way to secure an ambient tour of marvelous fun.  They possess wonderful picture accroutements that help bring a narrative some life, including for starters, this uplifting tour de force video, created by Envato.  They possess an extensive library for entrepreneurs who do projects.  These Summer Olympics In the end in the U.S. reflected that NBC viewership figures were up 76% on Tokyo figures.  I will furnish more information on the individual and team events later.

Shy girl meets an Olympian at one of a thousand international air terminals.  The closing ceremony was awesome, the medal of the Olympians was not, as athletes discover the color of the medals seem to loose their color after wearing them in the summer heat.  Final destination, home from Paris, which actually had two airports, the largest being the huge Charles de Gaulle airport, which accommodates some 260 international airlines, that serves more than 300 destinations, while Orly airport serves 35 airlines.  Team USA closed with wonderful performances, courtesy of USOPC.

Tres chic.

In a connecting flight, time to ask assistance once more, which way to go.

Come fly with me.  The Games resulted in the biggest events ever organized in France.  The Summer Olympic Games took place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The Olympic Games opening ceremony took place on July 26, 2024 with lasers, in French.

When the world awoke to

pole vaulters sharing Gold, that set the stage, for the theme for 2024, sharing information.  You may not realize how significant the theme of sharing has become. We have a novel strata of athletes, refugees showcased under the sun; they represent 100 million.   In a segment of the opening ceremonies on July 26, Celine Dion, despite rain and also a debilitating disease, she returned to sing a poignant hymn of l’amour.

That is sharing at its finest.

However, much to the chagrin of Olympic organizers, they found out the power of sharing can develop problems; of things they believed they could get away with, but couldn't.  That is the essence of this Olympics, the novelty of sharing in ways never seen before NOR thought about by the foes of God.  There was 1 part I did not notice at 1st that was upsetting: to blaspheme & be permitted to elevate diversity and mock Christianity. It is cowardly to act like if there is nothing wrong.

It is not a sign of French protest anymore, it is a sign of a new array of those in power to command you, so much they attack the world of a divine masterpiece, without any fear from anyone.  Artist director Thomas Jolly for personal reasons showed no compassion in Christianity, mocking Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper of 1495-1498 with his choreography.  The reason that transcends all others, is that he and others feel they have a legal right by humankind’s leaders to do as they please, and feel no mystic of religion could be powerful enough to deter them in their conquest of morality of the past, and replace it with their morality of the future.  People didn't even know it, they pulled a fast one over all French Christians.  All sorts of people, outside and inside France, took to the internet air waves and spoke up, however.  It is remiss not to point out, as historian, beyond the first days of the debacle, the young also brought to light items not seen by the older establishment, at first.  And, it is our young with no fancy diplomas who are sharing what they saw, that makes this Olympics unique in terms of sharing: they saw something wrong and did not stay chicken like older adults, they spoke out.

They may not have a Phd in foreign languages or in a computer language but they know their computers, take this example.  At the 3.35 min. mark we find comments on The Last Supper, including on that weird blue man but, advancing to the 4.31 mark, his arrow hit the bulls eye.  In the Olympic program, you have a guy with his genitals all out, with a youngster not more than 3 feet away.  It really started as a fashion show on a footbridge turned into a stage. The live morning NBC telecast was non-commercial interruption and showed more than the nighttime Primetime telecast.  By reading comments of those who viewed what these young people shared, and others, you will see they agree what the Olympic organizers did was wrong, and some comments were from other decent people from other religions.  It was sharing on a global level.  Every detail had to be signed off by a committee and it took years to put it all together, it was no kindergarten sketch—unless, there are those who push that drag queens should be able to reside in sports, to disrupt the M-F competitive distinctions, and that the display of 2024 is the first step that males should be allowed to run, throw, swim against female athletes, & you should shut up and say nothing when they tell you to let them be, who they feel

they want to be.

It is their form of knowledge that is supposed to be better, for a world that can, and must change according to them no matter what, by the power of the group. Furthermore, that knowledge and the scientific change on one’s male/female gender is the new power of the future. Once a tip-toe here, a tip-toe there, it must now command world consensus while, in a nutshell, make it sound those with differing opinions are made to sound wrong.  Anyone who mentions the Bible are wrong; what is bad is good, what is good is bad.

There are other examples, but the worst that transpired centered around the motif of the Last Supper desecration, and it is more than just 1 blue guy.  During the table scene, you had dancers doing lewd poses, complete with acts of carnal lust, danced to the beat of the music, of course.  No wonder the Olympic big wigs began to pull out from the internet, footage of the opening ceremony.  Should males who say they want to be known as females compete in 2028?  against female athletes  if they are good enough because they say so?  The information palpitated beyond simple politics. Elon Musk did state what was displayed, was disrespectful to Christians. But, not one adult from any main U.S. network even had the heart to mention the transgressions on the air.   I have heard that one big international firm squawked and told the Olympic organizers they were going to pull out.  Yet, enough people spoke out and after Christians worldwide complained, someone somewhere along the line listened, courtesy of USA Today and there was, an apology offered; a complete opposite of what is offered from Rome regarding the crucifix pis art that recently occurred, which to this day, no apologies to Christianity has been offered.   None of this is kindergarten stuff, but unless voices ring out with complains, there will be those who think their world is a paradise that is uncompromising, in which that should be the way of the future for the rest of humanity on a global level.

Must not miss your flight!  Hustle. Competitions involved all kinds, and each athlete is a companion to the inspiring theme the world can be a better place. One of our Olympic athletes is Gabby Thomas from the Eastern United States and from Harvard. She achieved three Gold medals. 14,500+ athletes and Olympic officials descended on France--speaking about Harvard, many in the fencing team are from Harvard or have graduated from Harvard. There have been tons of excitement with our Olympic champions, and myriad stories, but there is one that on the road of discovery, is hardly mentioned. It is the truth about Katie Ledecky.  She prays "The Hail Mary" before each of her races.

Don’t mess around!     Airline stewardesses, aka air hostess or flight attendants, in every kind of uniform, always try to serve the travelers with the premise that this is no joke when they know the task will be a tremendous one of providing safety and reaching their final destination on time, against, God forbid, any horrible weather snafus.   They always provide the assistance to reach the exciting destinations.   Don’t mess around when they give you instructions.  Air Canada had a new video from our brothers up north. [Ed note, press the word “here” for a cool informative video].

I'm from the old school, where growing up we were all  taught the importance of saying the Hail Mary, and also, my mom was like her mom, unafraid to volunteer and help take care of things in the church and at the altar.  I remember seeing my mom like a little busy bee round the altar.  The Hail Mary for me is comforting, and it unites our soul to God.  And, unites our hearts to Mary, in her most perfect love.  How it is in importance to those under 21 today, I can only guess.  To outsiders, the Hail Mary may seem nominal and like some cultish fad, but they are wrong.   It is powerful, has been around for hundreds of years, as right in the heart of the prayer, it focuses on the holy name of Jesus.  Pope John Paul II stated, "From Mary, we learn to surrender to God's will in all things.  From Mary, we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone.  From Mary, we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God."  Our Blessed Mother Mary gave St. Gertrude (1256-1301) a promise, "To any soul who faithfully prays the Three Hail Marys, I will appear at the hour of death in a splendor of beauty so extraordinary that it will fill the soul with heavenly consolation."  And, the hour of need, for any athlete is a race that is on a world stage, is the biggest race in their lives, which for Ledecky came in a flurry of many.  And, each one centered on the hope to do your best.  In the end, and no petit accomplishment, she is the most decorated U.S. female Olympian in history.  No, this is no Catholic BS, for what she has done is beyond the super nature of media gossip and social gossip, she is truly a lady of remarkable accomplishments. Ledecky has 14 overall Olympic medals; 9 are gold.  In her penultimate race for the Paris Olympics, Ledecky broke a tie she had with Americans Dara Torres, Natalie Coughlin and Jenny Thompson. Her spiritual tool is her trust in Jesus Christ, with a boost from His mother.

Whether your favorite sport is swimming, basketball, running, equestrian, tennis, gymnastics, water kayaking, whatever it is, the use of one's ability, speed and strength that summons the courage to do your best, that remains a key

ingredient.  Faster-Higher-Stronger is the Olympic motto, in Latin Citius, Altius, Fortius

Closing the door.  The plane will then smoothly taxi, and ascend into the blue sky.    It is a mighty endeavor for athletes to represent their country, for it requires hard work, determination and strength.  Athletes came from little villages and hamlets and from sprawling metropolises.

Opening the door to something spectacular.

A beautiful nightfall on the Pont Alexandre III Bridge,  During the Olympics, everyone in Paris had striven to put on a best show.  GI Joe and his fellow 1/6 scale friends thank you for visiting this engaging web page. The bridge above connects the Champs-Élysées with the Eiffel Tower area.  Each Olympics contains its own uniqueness. View from the upper stands, another Olympic Closing ceremony comes, the music if you listen with speakers stirs the imagination, we bid adieu to the hymn of Greece . . . Los Angeles 2028 awaits, merci DLP Welcome.  Unofficial Paris music.  Thus far, the Summer Olympics held in Paris were a resounding success in many forms, including the business sense as seen in this Forbes article. Forbes has been around a long time, and as an historian, I have used their astute information often, including in my WW II research.  What does the diet of an Olympic athlete look like?

Remember her?   Allyson Felix.  For any athlete, a good diet is important.  I used to eat a lot of granola and pancakes too, and something which was big in the 1980s, wheat germ both the oil, and the crunches made by Kretschmer, when I was in training in my college days.

Olympic Village mini tour.  Some 40,000 dishes were served each day.

Vive la difference!  Oh, no vive la difference?

Why should there be a connection that inclusion should be a free for all?  The force of love is important, but inclusion at all costs, no matter what, is for the birds.

For Olympics, French queer athlete wears a dress to show he has more power than you, and can influence the young under the tune inclusion for all no matter what.  In Christianity, it is one thing to be meek and mild and another to let them walk all over you and influence the future generations.  C’est dommage. The righteous must prevail.  Grace and honor.

It was a secret until the last second...Tom Cruise's mission impossible, merci NBC.

It is no secret, the latest news from France, a devastation from the forces of climate. This also is no falsies, bro, the Rhone flooding is very real as is this real.

Looking ahead to Los Angeles.

Can Americans as a whole unite?
